Cayman Islands & Paris | English Speaking Governess/Tutor – Knowledge in Psychology and Education | Flexible between June and September 2025
A French family, who are based in the Cayman Islands but also spend several months a year in Paris, is looking for a Governess/Tutor to help them supervise the academic and emotional development of their three children aged 13, 11 and 8 years old. The ideal candidate will speak both French and English fluently.
The family:
A French family, who are based in the Cayman Islands but also spend several months a year in Paris, is looking for a Governess/Tutor to help them supervise the academic and emotional development of their three children aged 13, 11 and 8 years old. The ideal candidate will speak both French and English fluently.
The children are homeschooled via the Crimson Global Academy service and have a tutor for each educational subject. This homeschooling model is also used when the family are in Paris. The parents would like the governess to focus on supporting this schooling method and guiding the children with their online classes.
In the Cayman Islands, the family has an apartment dedicated to online class hours, shared with other children also schooled online, which simulates their social development as well as their group learning.
The family spends 6-8 months a year in the Cayman Islands and 4-6 months in Paris and would like their governess to work in both locations.
Ideally, the governess/tutor will have a background in education and/or psychology.
The eldest, aged 13, is a very good student who is mature for her age. Their middle child, a little boy, aged 8, is on the spectrum and has an ADHD diagnosis. His parents describe him as "very cute and curious." He likes engineering and science in general. The youngest, aged 8, is a 2e diagnosed gifted child and has dyslexia. His parents describe him as very intelligent, and curious but he does require routine and boundaries as all children thrive under.
All three children are very empathetic and have big hearts.
Although a French-speaking family, the main language spoken at home is English. The children speak and understand French but are more comfortable in English. If the governess/tutor is able to speak French and can develop the children's knowledge of French this would be an advantage.
The father runs a company while the mother is a stay-at-home parent with a busy calendar of extra obligations.
Administrative aspects of the job:
Ideally, the Governess will start on June 12, 2025 in Paris. That said, some flexibility is possible on this start date.
The family will travel to South Korea from June 19 to July 12 and could consider a mid-July, August or September start date alternatively.
The family will leave on October 21, 2025 for the Cayman Islands.
The family's complete schedule for the year is not yet certain, as the parents are in the process of developing the schedule with the children's online school. However, they have these locations and dates tentatively planned:
School: September 8 to October 17: PARIS
Holidays: October 18 to November 2: CAYMAN
School: November 3 to December 12: CAYMAN
Holidays: December 13 to January 11: CAYMAN / to be confirmed
School: January 12 to February 20: CAYMAN
Holidays: February 21 to March 8: Cayman / to be confirmed
School: March 9 to April 20: CAYMAN
Holidays: April 21 to May 10: PARIS / very likely
School: May 11 to June 19: PARIS / very likely
The job will be declared in the Cayman Islands and the family will take care of the work visa.
The family will also organize a private pension fund and health insurance for the successful candidate.
A return flight to the candidate's home country for paid leave will be paid for yearly by the family.
Hours worked and salary of the governess/tutor:
The governess/tutor will work 55 hours per week from Monday to Friday.
Saturdays and Sundays are the designated days off and any work on these days will be compensated by other days off if the family is travelling at that time and the candidate is working.
The governess/tutor will accompany the family on holiday. These holidays (excluding Paris and the Cayman Islands) are generally for around 8 weeks per year.
The family is not yet certain of the holiday destinations, but they generally stay in hotels and all the expenses of the governess/tutor will be covered (hotels, flights, food etc.).
When travelling on holiday with the family, the governess/tutor will be paid the same net hourly wage.
For the nights spent on site, a distance/on-call allowance will be offered. This is £200 per night.
During vacation travel, the governess/tutor may sometimes work 6 days a week instead of 5.
The family offers 5 weeks of paid vacation per year.
Responsibilities of the governess/tutor:
The nanny/tutor will be expected to focus on the three children's education, daily routine, well-being and personal development.
The parents' goal is for them to develop great, independence.
The governess/tutor will be in charge of supervising / coordinating the children's online classes. She will in no way be responsible for teaching the children academically, but will be expected to support them in completing their homework and school projects.
Given that the children are homeschooled, the nanny/tutor will need to be able to provide structure and encouragement without being overbearing, guiding them in a firm but positive manner while encouraging their independence.
The exact times for children’s online class hours are not yet known to parents and will be confirmed as soon as possible.
The Governess/Tutor’s responsibilities will also include:
1. Supervising homeschooling: ensuring children are following their tutors’ lessons, communicating with teachers/tutors when needed, and reporting progress or concerns to parents.
2. Encouraging children’s independence: teaching children to manage their own responsibilities (packing their snack bags, tidying their rooms and clothes, preparing their things for activities, and organizing their homework) without doing everything for them.
3. Teaching positively: rather than micromanaging, the Governess/Tutor will guide and correct only when necessary, providing gentle but firm reinforcement that encourages self-motivation rather than resistance.
4. Social skills: helping to develop good manners, respect and discipline whilst maintaining a warm and engaging approach.
5. Daily structure without rigidity: maintaining a consistent routine whilst allowing room for flexibility, ensuring that children feel supported rather than controlled.
6. Afternoon activities and end of day supervision: accompanying children to after school activities (with the help of the mother) and ensuring that they return home and follow the evening routine. The children’s activities for the coming year are not yet known.
7. Domestic aspects of the role: the governess/tutor will be responsible for preparing the children’s meals. She will make larger quantities so that the parents can also enjoy them but it will remain simple but healthy cooking.
The governess/tutor will also have to encourage the children to tidy up themselves and become independent in this regard and to help with daily tasks. She will help tidy the rooms with the help of the cleaning lady.
Governess/Tutor Profile:
The family wants the Governess/Tutor to be confident in herself and her skills, able to be firm and to command respect without creating a climate of fear.
She should also have a balanced approach, i.e. not too lenient or too strict. She should also be able to demonstrate common sense, adaptability and be warm.
The parents want the Governess/Tutor to be a role model, someone who helps the children become responsible and well-behaved individuals while making them feel supported and independent.
The parents encourage a positive teaching style. Ideally, the Governess/Tutor will have a background in education, and/or psychology.
Any nationality will be considered provided the candidate has an excellent level of English.
The Governess/Tutor must be a driver.
Accommodation:
The job is offered on a live-in basis.
Accommodation will be provided for the governess/tutor in the Cayman Islands as well as in Paris and during trips. This accommodation and the related expenses will be covered by the family.
Salary:
An hourly rate of £25 / €30 net is offered.
Taking into account basic hours and hours during holidays/travel/night allowances, an annual net salary of £94,800 / €115,000 is offered.
This is equivalent to a monthly net salary of £7,900 / €9,500 smoothed over the year. Any additional holiday pay has already been taken into account in the calculation of this salary.
This will be declared in the Cayman Islands and is tax-free for the governess/tutor.
Please note that the same position is offered in the Cayman Islands and in Paris, which is why two descriptions are offered.
