Hiring a Nanny
Your family’s very own Mary Poppins; practically perfect in every way
We know that, for some, the prospect of hiring a nanny can be daunting. We’ve worked with families on their childcare hires for over 30 years and have gained immense experience along the way.
We only recruit experienced, qualified and dependable nannies. Nannies registered with us are looking for permanent positions on either a live-in or live-out (daily) basis.
Our nannies can hold a childcare / nanny diploma from a reputable institution and will have at least five years of childcare experience, often within a private home setting or nursery.
We take our time to carefully screen nannies and pay particular attention when matching nannies with families. Candidates are always selected to meet your individual and specific requirements.
Where do I begin?
When considering recruiting a nanny into your household we always advise speaking with a specialist; unlike many other domestic roles, it is vitally important that the candidate you bring into your child’s life matches up to your expectations, and provides stability and enrichment. Childcare positions have additional nuance and considerations to bear in mind, and in our experience working with a dedicated childcare recruitment specialist such as Nannies Incorporated is always worth the investment.
To get started, you may wish to reflect on what you’re looking to achieve from the appointment, or what special skillsets or duties you’d like to see in the role. Then, you may wish to consider the practical side of the appointment, such as budget for the role, accommodation, or how you’ll introduce the successful candidate to the family.
We have worked with families for over 30 years, and in that time have amassed considerable experience - to help you on your journey we would suggest reading through our Guides section, or completing our Family Registration form to give our team the building blocks to help find your ideal candidate.
What countries do Nannies Incorporated work in?
Whilst the majority of our placements have historically been located in London, Paris and Dubai, at Nannies Incorporated we have been lucky enough to work with wonderful families from all around the world.
We have placed nannies in Belgium, Kurdistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Denmark, the Cayman Islands, Austria, Greece, the Netherlands…and that’s just to name a few!
We are very happy to speak with families both at home and abroad, to find out if working with Nannies Incorporated would be best for your family.
What are the different types of Nanny?
People often write about many different types of nanny, and we have provided more detailed information on the core differentiators below. In reality though, the differences can often be less clear-cut; your Rota Nanny may also be bilingual, and happy to informally teach your child to speak conversationally in a second language, or perhaps the Travelling Nanny you bring into your family also has a background in Teaching, and so is able to tutor your children in core subjects.
If you’re at all unsure, our team of experienced consultants would be very happy to discuss your needs and preferences to establish exactly what profile of candidate would best suit your individual family.
How much does it cost?
Your Nanny’s salary will primarily depend on where you are located, but it would be advisable to do your research when it comes to setting your budget, to ensure that the nanny you bring into your home is well-trained, highly regarded, and has the experience needed to ensure a smooth working relationship. This figure would also cover the pension contributions legally required, and the fee payable to your Nanny’s recruitment and vetting agency.
We have provided a comprehensive Guide on the average nanny salaries per region that we service here, and you can read more detail on how our Fees work here.

Permanent Nannies
An experienced and considerate nanny can often be one of the best additions one could make to a family, providing dedicated and devoted care to a child or children, whilst also alleviating many of the logistical or time-based stresses for a modern parent.
A nanny will work with you to determine exactly what aspects you’d like their assistance with, but typical duties often include overseeing a child’s daily activities, attendance at playgroups, organising playdates, supervising homework, preparing children’s meals, bathing, keeping children’s rooms tidy, and children’s laundry.
Working hours are typically Monday to Friday for 10 - 12 hours a day, but these are often tailored to suit the individual family’s needs.
In addition, live-in nannies are often willing to assist with additional babysitting duties on occasional evenings, and will travel with the family during holidays.
A permanent nanny may also have additional interests or skills they can share with the child or children, such as a passion for the Arts, a keen interest in gardening or cooking, or a proficiency in a musical instrument; all wonderful ways to enrich your children’s development.
-
Bilingual Nannies
A bilingual nanny doesn’t only provide the care and attention expected of any nanny, but with the addition of enriching your child’s learning and view of the world.
A bilingual nanny or nanny-tutor is so valuable where English is not the first language of the family; and we also have families who want the nanny to be primarily an English speaker, but also with an understanding of another language so the children grow up understanding and speaking English well, in addition to the language/s spoken at home.
A bilingual nanny (or nounou, ninera or kinderfrau…) can help school aged children, not only with school work and teaching of a second language, but also with their social development, teaching them manners, etiquette and the nuances of different cultures.
In addition to English, the bilingual candidates we place are often able to speak French, Spanish, German or Mandarin though we do routinely work with other languages as well.
Our Bilingual Nannies will also always have 5+ years’ experience working as a nanny/tutor within a private household and will adapt their tutoring to suit the age, stage and learning preferences of your children.

Travelling Nannies
Travelling Nannies are specifically hired to go on vacations or extended work trips with families and are happy to travel extensively with you. Most live-in Nanny positions come with the expectations of some travel in the holidays but Travelling Nannies will routinely work abroad with their family for more than 8 weeks at a time.
Hiring a travel Nanny can help alleviate some of the stress of travelling, especially if you have more than one child or children of varying ages.
We’ve also found that a dedicated Travelling Nanny can be invaluable at helping children settle into their new surroundings, adjust to new timezones and, in addition, can help ensure that both parents and children alike are able to make the most of the new experience (be it a well-deserved holiday, or an opportunity to live for a short time in a new city or country).
Our Travelling Nannies are also often able to work on a Rota schedule with a second Nanny, for more comprehensive care for your children.
-
Rota Nannies
A rota nanny provides 24/7 childcare and works on an alternate number of weeks with at least one other nanny. For example, nanny A will work for 2 full weeks and nanny B will work the next 2 full weeks and so on. This arrangement can be highly advantageous to both the family and the nannies employed.
Families with extremely busy lifestyles, and who often travel a lot, tell us that rota nannies become invaluable members of their household.
Clients who have had rota nannies appreciate the benefits they provide to their families, mainly because of the continuous and predictable care given to their children.
Rota nannies are able to provide 24 hour care, proxy-parenting on a daily basis, when travelling extensively, when a child is ill or there are some other unforeseen family circumstances.
